This workshop will discuss racism and intersectionality within the interpreting field, including different ways both may manifest in the profession. This workshop is structured in a manner that will help participants define and understand "racism," and "intersectionality," as well as why both are critical in interpreters' work. Participants will also learn how to better recognize racism within the interpreting field and that racism is a spectrum. Through lecture, interactive exercises, and discussions, participants will learn how racism and intersectionality affects their interpreting work through scenarios involving consumers and team interpreters. The workshop will also discuss valuable tools that participants can use in their journey in learning about racism, audism, and other forms of oppression.
