DIRC
Deaf /Interpreter Relations Committee

DIRC responsibilities:

BEFORE MEETINGS :

Each month, secure a presenter or group leader. Preferably, have a team of one Deaf person and one hearing person.
Advertise the date and topic of the meeting throughout the Deaf and interpreting communities. This includes NYC Deaf News, the Metro RID newsletter, emailing the DIRC mailing list, making announcements at Metro RID, NYCCAD, BDA, NAOBI and all other meetings of relevant groups.

Secure the location at 75 Morton (OMRDD). If a large group is expected, request the large meeting room on the first floor.
Announce hiatuses for vacations (traditionally, August and December.)

If the meeting will veer from the traditional meeting time, the third Friday of each month from 5:30-7:30, advertise this change, emphasizing the new day and time.

AT MEETINGS:
  • Facilitate the arrangement of chairs so all attendees are visible to each other.
  • Make sure the presenter(s) have all materials required.
  • Pass a mailing list around, allowing those not on the list to sign up.
  • After meetings, make sure the space is clean and orderly.
